To Re-Cite is a Newspaper commissioned by The Whitechapel Gallery for the inaugural Backyard Biennial supported by Counterpoints Arts bringing together writing, reflections and images from Muslim writers, artists, activists and community leaders, the publication explores sound, memory, faith and collective experience as part of the wider To Re-Cite project — from recitation and prayer to breath, rhythm, and silence — and how they shape spiritual, emotional, and communal life. The starting point of the project is the Quranic verse Ayat al-Kursi, whispered across generations, transmitted as both lullaby and sonic protection.
